as neither ZoneAlarm nor COMODO is compatible with GameGuard anymore, I am running without a firewall for the moment. Is there any other good free firewalls, that is compatible with GameGuard?

For those that don't know what GameGuard is, it is a rootkit-like hacking protection in games, like secuROM, but detecting gamehacks instead of preventing copying.

GameGuard = PunkBuster = BAD.....

But really what is wrong with Windows Firewall? I use that on my gaming box, and on the network side I have a slower PC acting as a router which has a firewall on it.

Quite frankly, a properly configured Windows Firewall provides all the inbound protection you'll need.

That said, however, I personally use COMODO Firewall. I use it mainly for it's integration with its Defense+ HIPS, not for its outbound protection (Which is USELESS! If you are ALREADY infected, then all your computer's process is under suspect, so there's no reason to believe that an outbound protection will even help!).

Two good firewalls, according to PcPro reviews, are AVG, and Avast - they are on the web, and like ZoneAlarm you need to choose the free editions. AVG is especially highly thought of. Check out specialist security type forums

i like PCTools.com's free firewall. I think common setup is good, but advanced bugs you for everything, or maybe it's the opposite??>?>. :lockd:

Windows Firewall.
If you need anything more then Windows Firewall, you shouldn't be on the internet doing what your doing.

This pretty much describes your situation. If you feel you need more of a firewall than that, i suggest you get a router with port forwarding and a hardware firewall to add extra security. Linksys routers work great and offer good protection.
