Apache on Stoli (or the apparently overly-common lack thereof)

As said on various posts, the issue with the server load and apache seems to be abuse/dead accounts (http://forums.x10hosting.com/free-hosting/67779-few-problems-stoli.html#post386042).

When I first joined x10hosting, I was blown away. This was my first shot at a hosting site anything like this and I was blown away with the server stability, incredible service (<3 Chris73), and recommended the sight to 2 mates that were also hunting about for hosting. At this time I was on Vox... Vox was heaven.

When Vox... bit the dust? and we were moved to Stoli, my confidence to recommend the service became hesitant at best. Chris73 claims in in the post in the first paragraph, "When Apache goes offline it's for less than 30 seconds for 99% of the time." I intend no offense and apologies for putting you on the spot, but Apache must reset somewhere near 300 times a day and I have miserable luck to explain the amount that I have failed loads on my page (multiple attempts not being resolved within 2 minutes time, no spamming F5).

At this point, my users are turning to me and asking me what they or I can do to resolve the issue. The point has already been passed where people have given up using the forums on my site due to apache being down and thus my site when they submit their posts let alone browsing in general.

I can understand how frustrating it is on your end to have us over here commenting on a free service the you provide, but it's to the point (at least for my users) that the site is not worth the time to check regularly as the odds are too high to burn the time on.

Do we have any kind of a time-frame as to when the issue(s) could be resolved or at least the effects lessened? I'm sure it's on the to-do list, I'm just curious if it is near enough in the future for it to be worth the frustration of my visitors to continue hoping that the site still loads each time they click.

Again, no offense to the team intended though I'm relatively sure that I hit a spot somewhere. When we were on Vox, x10hosting was above and beyond every expectation I could have imagined for a hosting service. Maybe Stoli will surprise me tomorrow and no longer have issues like this, but the condition it is in now makes me reverie of Vox to avoid the reality of Stoli.

Ken.

Ever since the move from Vox, stoli hasn't been upto mark. This usually happens when one or more users start using up more resources than what is expected. The staff are continously monitoring the server for any high resource usage by accounts and dealing with them.

I understand what is causing it and that it's being looked into, but is there any hope that this might be resolved in the near future? I'd say maybe a month, but that's already passed since the issue appeared as Vox was moved over. Perhaps 2? 3? Absolutely-no-idea-and-we-should-assume-it-will-not-be-resolved? I know you can't say a date or length of time... but... some sort of target would be nice as it is really an issue over here and I'm assuming for many other users.

I have had no problems with the servers actually going down/restarted as those are timely and expected, but this apache issue is just as serious to those of us needing the Apache service as the server being up or down. When Apache decides to be unpleasant, the site is down for all practical purposes.

I'm sort of at a loss here as my members and visitors have been pressuring to change to something more stable and the best I can offer is to curse a bit that Vox ever went down and that we are on Stoli which of course means little to nothing to them other than that when they need the page, it is not there.

:shrugs: I feel like I'm looking for a sign that there is light on the other side of this and the best anyone can say is that the clouds are still moving.. but we don't know how big the storm is, how long it will last, or if it will ever move on.

But with each day we suspend or terminate accounts that have broken rules, the admins monitor the logs for bad activities, sure, stoli hasnt been the same since Vox went, but, we are doing all we can. As staff its as disapointing for us when something isnt right as it is you, many staff have sites on stoli so if stoli throws a wobble, its their site too.

We all work for x10 because we want it to be the best, and want to do all we can to make it better. Its just sometimes its not always easy when you know what a symptom is but not always what causes it.

I know you are trying and such, and I never intended otherwise.. It's just a bit hard to ride it out when there might be another way and you don't know if there is any end within sight. I don't much expect to get anything I haven't heard or read on this before. I'll speak to my members tomorrow and see what they think of our options. Don't get me wrong, please. I would love to stay here... but our stay on Stoli is not something that I don't know if I can convince them to trudge through to the other side.

My vote is to stay... and maybe dump my current site for something that is independent of Apache... :shrugs:
