Bad Service.

I have signed up to x10hosting on more than one computer, and a different IP address, and I always get the same error.
"Error 500" "Internal Server Error"
"The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was unable to complete your request."
Why should this happen, even when I have only a one .txt file on my server as a test.
Please check what the problem is.

do you have a .htaccess? If so, try to remove it.

Also, can you check what the error log in your cPanel says?

No, I don't have a .htaccess, and there is nothing in my Error Log.
Any more ideas?

Yes, you do have an .htaccess file.

I don't appreciate the title of this thread when you're the one causing the problem on your account.

It's okay now, but I had to delete the directory 'public_html' for it to work.
Why does .htaccess not appear?Please reply.

you need to tell your FTP client to show hidden files, that depends on what client you are using, but there is often a button or a setting in the options

I'm not using an FTP Client like FileZilla.

Bottom of the cpanel There are links, click on "reset all interface settings "

Now open the filemanager.

Select tickmark "Show hidden files"

click open

Now you can see the .htaccess file. in public_html folder

I agree. X10 is the best free hosting service anywhere and trust me I have checked to research my blog. This threads title is in really poor taste considering its YOU who has the problem not X10.

Plus an easy way to sort this would have been to simply change the extension of test.txt to test.html and uploaded it.

No, that would have done nothing.

Ah I see. The only problem I've had was a 404 error when I uploaded my google apps file and named it .txt instead of .html by accident :biggrin: also didn't realise he was wanting to call .txt files, I thought it was only being used for testing the site.
