Can someone explain these domains to me

I always considered myself pretty web-savvy, but the recent introduction of .info domains has bamboozled me!!

They are meant as online address books, but you can point them to ANY location you like. I have a .info address and there is nothing to stop me pointing is at my blog and leaving it at that...

What's the point of coming up with these things if you don't enforce them?? It's just another TLD, surely?

TLDs are not strictly attached to their primary (read suggested) use. It's juts a suggestion that can (if fallowed) make thing a little more clearer to users. Of course there are .GOV and other domains that are strict but .COM, .NET, .INFO, etc. are not.
