Hi experts, can anyone help me with this;
My home area i.p. is in the north of Ireland (NI) and some of my work is in Southern Ireland (ROI). I tried to log in to cpanel from ROI today and I was rejected with the messsage that I'm logging in from the wrong location as I registered while in NI. Can someone please fix this if possible, I regularly am between both sides living in the border region.
TIA

Hi,

Thank you,
Hi I've just tried again and get exactly the same error;
There is a problem with your request
We've detected that you are signing in from a country that is different from where your account signed up. Your sign-in is from Ireland while your account was registered from United Kingdom

If this is a mistake please get in touch at our Community Forums for a resolution.

So I guess I can't be a travel blogger with x10hosting? :confused: Seems a tad limiting.

That's to prevent people from signing up in a whitelisted country (or having someone else do the sign-up for them) when they're operating from a not-so-whitelisted country. (Countries that are not whitelisted either have a significant record of abusing accounts here or are illegal for x10Hosting to trade with or provide services to in any way.) Yes, it can be a pain in the patook for legitimate users, but there are reasons why we can't have nice things. It's one of the drawbacks of free: people have nothing to lose, so they'll try just about anything since the worst that can happen is they lose the free thing.

(I should point out that many of the measures being rolled out here are being rolled out in an effort to provide service to more countries. That means being just a little bit more strict about some things and having much of that strictness automated.)

I understand what you are saying essellar but the result of this will be me opening another account with another email from my 'other' whitelisted country and setting up webspace in that. Seems a bit of a waste to me. It is not a good security measure anyway as anyone could use a proxy server to set up an account. Seems to me it is much more restrictive to legitimate users than to anyone else:(

Actually petex102 if you are using a wordpress site you can log in through the wordpress interface and post to your travelling hearts content - it is just the cpanel which blocks the login from abroad:)

can you log-in to your account (cPanel) - or open a free-hosting account - using a "proxy" or VPN or any tunneling protocol ? - I do not think so

you can log in through the wordpress interface
you still need to log-in to your free-hosting account (cPanel) every 30 days or less
AND [ mod_security ] puts limits on what you can do (post) with the "wordpress interface"

So you've tried using a proxy then? Ok thanks for letting us know that. It does not help the situation though.
This thread was started because I am switching daily between two areas. I can therefore login to cpanel within the monthly timeframe and I can still post using wordpress while out of the area so it really depends on how long petex102 will be travelling abroad for whether or not my suggestion would help.
