I registered a domain name ("arfer.net") with which to replace my old subdomain ("kodi.exofire.net"). I followed these instructions. Now, somewhat over forty-eight hours later, trying to visit "arfer.net" with Firefox yields only the message "Firefox can't find the server at kodi.exofire.net." I've since read elsewhere that you need to change your domain's nameservers before switching domains in the x10 account-management panel, whereas I did the latter first, so perhaps that was my mistake. But at any rate, what do I need to do now to get "arfer.net" to point to my site? (I intend not to use "kodi.exofire.net" at all anymore.)

Looks as you have a redirect active.
Go into cPanel and check redirects under "domains" section. Currently your main domain (arfer.net) is redirecting to your old domain (kodi.exofire.net), which no longer is a valid domain (it was removed from the system when you changed your main domain).
