I had watched this video where cell phones were popping popcorn kernels when they ring but then I watched how it's done to find it was a hoax lol. I'm surprised this hasn't been deleted yet.

Cell phones do, however, emit radiation... I wonder if it's enough to do anything?

I think if you had a cellphone next to your ear all day every day, over the course of a lifetime, the radiation might start to cause some damage. But for the normal cell phone user, I just don't think they're used near enough to cause any measurable damage.

While your statement is, strictly speaking, true, the 'radiation' emitted by cellular phones is electromagnetic. This means it is simple light. The frequency of cell phone 'radiation' is not such as to cause any harm to the body, as x-rays and gamma rays can. The most that might happen is a small bit of heating of the tissue the cell phone is touching, ie your hand, your ear, your cheek.

A cell phone does not emit ionizing radiation, which is the type from nuclear disintegration. This radiation is the kind that can damage cells and even DNA. If cell phone emitted ionizing radiation, they would never have been allowed to be sold in the first place.

Unless you have the phone sitting up against your head all the time transmitting at full power, you'll have a slight increase of a risk of mutating something. You're way more likely to get sunburned on a cloudy day than you are to be harmed by a cell phone.

And FYI: Everything around you is "radiation". Heat, Light, Electromagnetic, Infrared, etc.

If you were exposed to bad radiation for extended periods of time what could it do to you?

Well, radiation causes your cells to mutate. Normally, the radiation in the world around us is so low that our bodies can create new cells faster than the old ones can mutate. If there were enough radiation however, our bodies would start losing usable cells, thus causing rapid aging and lots of cancer formed by mutated worthless cells. There's more that can happen, but that's kind of the basics.

If you hit your head hard enough with big old cell phone you might do some damage :D

Or if you put it on the back of your car and have an accident ... that could do the trick :p
