cPanel Permissions Fiasco

For some reason cPanel set my permissions inside images/ to 0000 when I tried to set them to 0644. I have no idea why this has happened. But I would like it fixed, please. Thanks in advance for any/all help.

Go to cpanel file manager.

select images

and then press file permission..

enter 644 (not 0644) and press ok..

The permissions are null. Any attempt to change them -at all- yields "Permission Denied" :/
