By the time I finish typing this, it'll probably be back up, but did the IRC server just go down? I was disconnected and now my connections are timing out.
I'm just wondering whether it's actually down or Comcast is just being dumb.

Well, I wasn't on IRC then.

But I've just tried connecting to test it for you, & I can't.

So I guess it must be down! :happysad:

Seems like netsplit or something, only 6 users in the room, instead of the normal 20

We've only got one server, no netsplits, just the IRC daemon going offline. Plus, I dunno if Corey is actually able to fix it, if he has the right permissions. Who knows, maybe. I'd be inclined to think he'd phone someone else, or just say "someone else will fix it eventually, leave me alone!"

It seems to be working now, I just logged in to it.

I use Mibbit, you can access it inside your browser and don't have to install anything else.

The IRC server has the tendency to go down every few weeks or so. It seems to happen whenever Windows Updates come out.

I'm currently trying out www.Pidgin.im , because it works with multiple IRC & IM clients all in the 1 interface (I can simultaneously use it for Google Talk, for example).

But I'll probably give these other suggestions a try, as they may have more advanced features for IRC alone.

I use chatzilla, an extension for Firefox, but I'm planning on changing.

ChatZilla is a great one, it's main advantage is that it's integrated into Firefox.
I've just switched to IceChat, and I find it great. However, the default theme is a bit to blueish.

If you want a simpler theme (mostly white and grey) here is mine, just import it from the theme popup menu.
