This is because you've reached the inode limit. This counts towards anything under your account so if you do have a lot of emails or just a whole bunch of stuff where your site is stored, try deleting the less important stuff.

Thank you caft. But I have experimented with this and I find that if I delete a large file I can then upload lots of small files. Wouldn't that be more inodes?
How can I get details of how many inodes I am using and what the limit is?

#1.> Sign in to your cPanel account

#2.> if you are NOT in the [ cPanel x3 ] theme - click on the "Switch Theme" button at the top on the screen - you can choose between [ x10Hosting Basic ] and [ cPanel x3 ] themes

#3.> to see the number of [ inodes ] your account has used - at cPanel-x3's home page (not x10hosting Basic) - look down left side for [ inodes ] - you might need to open ( click on ) [ Stats ] - 50,000 is the maximum

The limit is 50K inodes; you should be able to see inodes used on your cPanel if you're using the x3 theme (not x10Hosting Basic). New accounts are limited initially to 512MB (usually); you can request an upgrade to unmetered storage (still with the inode limit, that's hard-and-fast) when your account is (1) at least 7 days old and (2) is using at least 50% of your initial allotment, provided that it's fully within the Terms of Service and Acceptable Use Policy. (It's pretty much always granted, but the initial cap and 7-day delay prevents a lot of abuse. It also helps with resource planning; "I love my cat" and point-of-presence pages/sites tend to stay small.)

Just to clarify, you have not hit the inode limit. Your account has currently hit the initial disk limit of 512MB. You can request for a free upgrade once your account meets the requirements, as @essellar explained. ;)

Just to make it crystal clear: inode is basically the amount of files and folders stored within a certain directory. X10 sets a 50,000 inode limit to each and every free account here (which means as I've said, doesn't only apply to where you put up the site files). It's basically applying a file/folder limit on a users account on a PC (e.g. /home/[ACCOUNT NAME]).

With that said, the inode count shouldn't really be affected by a size of a file, though there can be rules like from what I've read from one web host the more longer the file/folder name is the more inodes are used. About file size: not too long ago, a restriction of 10MB was put in place so anything larger than 10MB (or probably exactly) would be later removed.

I kind of misread what was being said in the OP, just to let you know. The disk quota can also be affected by how much space you're using under you account, refer to @esseller's post for information about that.

Thank you Dead-i. Can you tell me how I can access a full list of all 'limits': I cannot see anything relevant under "HELP CENTER" or "Terms of Service"?

More than 1 week now. Does my account now meet the requirements?
