Disk space limit

The front page of the site says that free web hosting offers "Unmetered disk space". My cPanel says I have used 965.2/1024 MB implying that I have 1GB available, nearly full.

Is it unlimited or not?

It's still unmetered if you need it (but remember that you're restricted to 1GB for media galleries).

What are "media galleries"?

Sounds a bit risky if you have to ask a human being to upgrade you to unmetered.

The only risk would be if you would be breaking ToS

Media gallery would for instance be a display of images that does not sit with the textual content of the site.

For instance if the only text with them is captions for the images they'd fall under gallery, as opposed to a image that sits within an article to help clarify the subject of that article.
