So I purchased a domain name and changed the nameservers to ns1.x10hosting.com and ns2.x10hosting.com. But all I get now when I type in the domain (http://www.simplydavidyoon.com/) is https://www.x10hosting.com/website-coming-soon
I can be a little more patient and say that's just going to take a little time which is understandable. Now here's the problem. The root directory holds my wordpress and I went into the wp-admin and changed the main site domain to http://www.simplydavidyoon.com/ instead of http://simplydavidyoon.elementfx.com/ and that's where everything went haywire. I can't access my wp-admin and now when I go into the subdomain, the whole website is screwed up. Do I just need to wait for everything to settle or did I screw up big time here?

Ive not had to do the following in a while and googling 'relocate wp to another host' may give you a better solution.
However, from your CPanel open up phpMyAdmin
select your Data Base from the left field,
select WP_options
and now in the center filed you should be able to "edit" you site address back to what is should be.

Thanks! That fixed the problem. So can I never change it to the other domain? The main domain will always be the subdomain of x10hosting?

The main domain of the account will always be an x10hosting domain yes, but you can tell wordpress to use any domain attached with your account as its main domain, if both domains currently point to the wordpress install, just log into the admin interface of wordpress using the domain it is currently configured to, and in settings change it to be the new domain.

If only the new domain would actually point to the wordpress install, there's a couple options available, see this article from wordpress: http://codex.wordpress.org/Changing_The_Site_URL

Please note that if you do the changes through phpMyAdmin there's actually two instances that needs to be updated, I don't recall the names of the variables at hand though.

Ok I think I've figured it out, but just one last question. Does it usually take more than a day for a domain name to change to the nameserver because it's been stuck on that website coming soon page for awhile.

The coming soon would show ONLY after the changes were properly made and the domain pointing to our server.
However it has a tendency to get stuck in the browser cache, so you might need to clear that to view your site properly.

Then I may be doing something wrong.
These are the correct nameservers right? ns1.x10hosting.com and ns2.x10hosting.com
Do I need to do anything after? I parked my domain but I didn't set any redirection. That's fine right since it automatically goes to my root?

yes, that is fine, there's no need to set up a redirection (unless your actual site is say in public_html/site/ and you want that to come automatically when someone enters the domain).

I'll take a peak and see if I can figure out what is causing the issue, a short delay is normal, but we're talking an hour tops on our end while the server updates itself with the new domain information. Propagation can take longer, but since the domain properly points to the server, that is not the issue here.

I can now successfully visit your site using http://www.simplydavidyoon.com/, it is possible you need to clear cache once more before it shows properly.

Now that the domain is functional, you should also safely be able to login to the wp admin (using old domain) and change the settings so that your .com domain is used as main domain by wordpress.
