Hello,

I want to buy a domain and be able to have an email address like Me@mydomain.co.uk

What would be the best way to do this? I have my website on x10hosting and just need to figure out the best way to do this. Any Ideas? Im really new to this.

My website wont get much traffic as its a small business page

You can purchase the domain at any registrar, I'm sure other users of this forum will have suggestions on a good one.

Once you have purchased the domain you will need to login to the registrars control panel and update the nameservers for the domain, they should be set to: ns1.x10hosting.com and ns2.x10hosting.com (remove any others as they will only confuse the internet).

To be able to create your own email address you will need to add the domain as separate domain in DirectAdmin, you'll find this under "Account Manager" -> "Domain Setup". Click "Add new"

I still cannot get email at markm@markmcdermott.com. I checked with my registrar, and the name servers are as shown above. My "Domain Setup" has been set for years. I can't "Add New" with an email address. Is there some setting I have to change with the "Modify MX Records" panel?

@ markmcde
i had no email issue switching from the old cpanel to directadmin.
but i use x10's default mail settings and mail.mysite.com
for pop and smtp settings.

So i may be wrong, but im assuming for you to get email on your .com name
you would need to add a new mx record for it.
adding your markmcdermott.com name instead of x10's name

you can try going to the email manager > mx records/modify mx records
then add record record type = MX record name = markmcdermott.com
ttl=14400 value=10 and duplicate to pointers checked (guessing)

either it will work or not but im just guessing at that to.
i havent tried it just so you know.

Thanks. I've tried that, and get the message "Cannot Add Record. You must provide a valid name and value." I already have 5 MX records on that panel, all pointing to Google.com for some reason. I also tried the period at the end of "markmcdermott.com" and it did not make a difference. So there's something else missing.
Thanks much for your help!

@ markmcde
have you tried at your DNS providers control panel ? (the markmcdermott.com name)
i dont know if you have any options there or not.
i know its a pain not having working email.
maybe consider a gmail account instead, much easier.

I do have a gmail address. But I've carried mark mcdermott.com through three different hosts and not had the trouble before. So some services I'm registered for through that address can't be accessed.

I believe your advice for changing settings finally "took!" I sent a test email from another account that finally showed up.
It appears to this noobie that the migration set the MX settings to "G Suite" automatically, even though I'm not using it, just regular Gmail.
Just need to see if I can get more of my mail back.

Thanks!
