I added domain and changed the name servers in godaddy. when I type in www.mydomain.com I do not get my site. when I type in mydomain.com I get referre to the 10X subdomain. I want my site to appear on my domain. Is this possible?
Should I redirect from go daddy?
would like to type www.mydomain.com or mydomain.com and not have it redirected to the myname.x10hosting.com. this is not happening for me at the moment.

I'm going to assume there that it was supposed to be an example domain as you don't own it.
Have you added the name servers first and then added the domain? It's best to keep it in the correct order.
To check some domain info, use http://whois.domaintools.com.
For the DNS propagation progress, use https://www.whatsmydns.net.
DNS propagation can range from a few minutes to a few days (in some cases weeks). Usually, it's either a few hours or a day.
Have you added the name servers first and then added the domain? It's best to keep it in the correct order.

Called Godaddy they say I need a cname pointed to @ at x10. I want be able to type www.mydomain.com or my domain.com in the address bar and have it come up that way and not redirected to sub domain xxx.x10hosting.com.
Is this not possible with a free hosting account?
Yes. You would need to create two cname records.
mydomain.com @ [X10 SERVER IP HERE (refer to cPanel]
www.mydomain.com @ [ENTER IP AGAIN]
After that (assuming the NS servers are also in the DNS zone file), you would add your domain as an add-on domain in cPanel.

The best way of adding your domain to x10Hosting is to set our nameservers at your domain registrar. Our nameservers are:
ns1.x10hosting.com
ns2.x10hosting.com
After these nameservers have been set, cPanel will allow you to create your domain as a Parked or Addon Domain.
At GoDaddy, they have a guide to help you do this:

I have the name servers set on GoDaddy. Here is my question: my domain name is fangirluprising.com, my site is http://fangirluprising.x10host.com/. How do I set it up so that when users come to my site they see fangirluprising.com not fangirluprising.x10host.com in the url? Do I set fangirluprising.com as a parked or addon domain? According to the discussion so far I need to make it an addon domain, and set the cnames on GoDaddy, but I don't see where I can find the IP in cPanel as caftpx10 recommends. Is there another way to do this?

Yeah. Those would absolutely need to exist as that's the main thing that should be in a DNS zone file (if you're wanting to use it for web hosting).
Oops. They should be A records. CName records are for something else. And they should be added on GD. You would probably also need o re-add the domain on X10.

Looks like you have the DNS records all sorted out.
Now, to fix the links on your site so they all point to your custom domain instead of the x10host.com subdomain:
Sign into your site's WordPress admin area and change the 'site url' to your custom domain.

Wait. You checked mydomain.com ? I thought that was an example?

I updated the name servers on GoDaddy and added fangirluprising.com as a parked domain as described here: https://x10hosting.com/support/domains/add-domain-name
That seemed to get the DNS sorted out, but changing my site url to fangirluprising.com did not fix the links. I'm still seeing the x10hosting links. I suppose this means I need to delete the parked domain and do it as a addon domain instead?
Seems to be working now.
The "About Us" link is working but the other links, like the forum link, are not working: http://fangirluprising.x10host.com/index.php/forums/
