Alright, I just started my first domain, fin7710.x10hosting.com. I want to set up my account so I can create and edit my web pages in Adobe Dreamweaver CS3 on my home computer, then use Dreamweaver's FTP to upload them onto my domain for testing/hosting. I created an FTP account in cPanel with the following settings:
FTP Username: fin7710@fin7710.x10hosting.com
FTP Server: ftp.fin7710.x10hosting.com
FTP Server Port: 21
SFTP Server Port: 22
According to cPanel, the directory is /home/fin7710/.

Now, in Dreamweaver I fill out the FTP information as follows:
Name: fin7710
Access Type: FTP
FTP host: fin7710.x10hosting.com
Host directory: /home/fin7710
Login: fin7710@fin7710.x10hosting.com
Password: ***********
URL Prefix: http://fin7710.x10hosting.com/home/fin7710/

The URL Prefix was filled out automatically based on the other input. There are also checkboxes for:
-Use passive FTP
-Use IPv6 transfer mode
-Use firewall
-Use Secure FTP (SFTP)

I have tried all possible combinations of these check boxes, but I still get the following error:
An FTP error occurred - cannot make connection to host. Your login or password is incorrect. Please check your connection information.

I have also tried listing my login as just fin7710, but that doesn't work either. Can someone please tell me what is going on here. I have been trying to get this working for over 3 hours now. Please help!

Nope, no go. Does anyone have any idea what the problem here might be? I don't think its a firewall problem because I used to connect to my school's server through the Dreamweaver FTP no problem.

Keep your host directory column in FTP Settings blank
I mean here
"Host directory: /home/fin7710"
Just leave it blank and try
It should work... It is how it works for me

FTP.yourwebsite.x10hosting.com

host directory leave blank

login username@yourwebsite .x10hosting.com

Vauguely recall something about the server only accepting fifty or so FTP connections at any one time so connecting at peak times could be a problem, not sure about this..

Other stray thought ... if you are using a broadband router these often have a seperate firewall setup inside them.
