Well, my driving test is tomorrow :D! I have my permit now and I drive everywhere we go. Plus, I just drove around for 2 hours for extra-before-test practice.

When/if you took your test, was it hard? Did you miss anything? Did you pass it the first time?

Although I have a feeling the system differs at your end from what it is here, I assume that to some extent they are similar at least.

I took my driving test in april 2000, I passed on the first time. I was rather cocky before hand about it as well, telling my friends that "sure I can do the driving Saturday, I'll take my license on Thursday" (well I'm not 100% sure it was on a Thursday I took my test, but you get the picture).

Wasn't all that hard, though I had been practice driving for quiet some time before though. Once I had the permit to practice drive it took a bit before I had money for actual lessons and the test. There was some minor mistakes that the inspector said I should practice a little more on, but nothing that really were critical in terms of being able to drive safely.

I got a mean, angry, old lady as my test administrator. There's this awful blind curve behind the DMV in Woodstock, IL with an intersection just after it. I went around the curve (about 15 MPH, the speed limit) and some guy pulled out in front of me (there's no stop sign on my road but there's one in his) and I slammed on my brakes so I didn't hit him. That got her all bent out of shape. I probably would have passed, except she was up in arms because I made a right hand turn from a stop sign and immediately stopped for a red light. Some guy was making a right hand turn to where I just came out of. He had his signal on, was slowing down and starting his turn onto the road when I went. Apparently, she was upset I didn't wait until he was actually down the road (assuming someone turning on to a road wasn't sure enough they were really going to go down that road and not swerve back into the turn lane for the stoplight).

So, she failed me. I passed the second time with a different administrator who wasn't a cranky old hoot and he couldn't figure out why I wasn't passed the first time.

I hope I don't get any cranky person :p

Dunno about the laws between countries and states, but here I lucked out with a parent-tutor program. Basically dad signed a paper saying "yup she can drive" and I took the written test. And it worked. He's a good enough teacher and I haven't killed anyone yet

Way to be lucky, fractal :p

I took driving lessons with Young Drivers of Canada (yes, that is a two-letter domain you see; what, me jealous?) over the summer, but the problem now is that DriveTest instructors are on strike, so from late August up until the 12th, nobody in Ontario (yes, the whole province) could get a new license and even now only people who need a license for employment reasons can get one.

What's worse is that I hate driving to begin with, so while I was ready to take the road test right after YD lessons ended in early September, I'm probably not up for it now because I've been largely avoiding driving.

There was nothing that troubled me during my driving test. I thought it was really easy, and I passed it on my first try.

Well I passed and only missed one thing! Whenever we made a u-turn, I went to the center of the median, instead of the right. :D

Psh, remember you said that after you get in a car crash because you turn into the median when doing a u-turn!

... Not saying that I want it to happen, but still.

No, no. You know when you're making the u-turn, the area between the two sides of the road? That's what I was in the middle of, not the side of the road x____________X
