Forum php email

I set up a MyBB forum with free hosting here, and it works, but it can't send email (no notifications or anything). Could some kind person please talk me through troubleshooting that? Thank you in advance!

I had an error that it could only send to gmail address, something to do with spam detection. Not sure of its relevant!

I'm also running a mybb forum hosted here and had issues with no emails being sent.

On mybb, are you using PHP email or smtp?

I had it set up php but had to change it to smtp for it to work.

I think I tried both php and SMTP. SMTP works for you now? I'll have to look into that, but I'll probably be back for more help figuring it out....

Correct.

I got smtp working instead. You can see if it works by logging into the mybb admin panel > Tools and Maintenance > System Mail Log. That records any issues it has if settings aren't correct.
