Found a bug- User profile link is wrong

Hello everyone.

I just signed up yesterday, and i'm inpress with the service.

I don't know if you know about this, but if I click on my name (*Daniel) it will take me to http://forums.x10hosting.com/members/-daniel.html insted of http://forums.x10hosting.com/members/*daniel.html Does anyone know why that is?

because you can not have '*' in a URL
so when you sign up, they do allow special character in your display name, but to make it so that you have a link to your profile, they have to replace the special character with another character that is allowed in the URL in this case '-'

Yesterday, I left a message on 2 of the staff visetor message board, and they end up post on this profile: http://forums.x10hosting.com/members/-daniel.html. Also they let me have the * in my display name. But for some reason, if I replace the - with *, the correct profile will come up.

Looks like it's the way the system normalizes the account names before outputting it in a URL. This feature is actually hardcoded in vbulletin, so I don't think that the admins can change it.

However, you might qualify for a name change, as this might lead to major problems in the future.

I don't think that it is anything major, nor do I think that an admin would mess around with it. Also, like you stated that your other URL works too, so I don't see why they would need to mess around with the script.

and you should NOT PM any admin without their discretion, it could result in a ban.
I would just leave it here, and hope one of them sees this, they didn;t make a forum for suggestions and feedback, just to not look at it.

Ok, cool. I post a pic to show what I can see on the screen when I put my mouse over my display name. I'm worried that someone will reply on the wrong profile.

Yeah, if they PM you asking what you should change your username to, go ahead and reply to them.
Don't PM them first though, some of them may not even check their PM inboxes because of all the spam

well I think upon registering vB will catch it, but if they don't.....well I don't know what will happen

I can verify that this is a legitimate reason to request to get your username changed, as it is already causing errors (Christopher replied to -Daniel's visitor message board instead of *Daniel's).

Please file a support request at http://forums.x10hosting.com/support.php outlining your problem, and someone will escalate the issue to a staff member who will resolve the issue for you. Be sure to specify what you want your forum username to be changed to.
