Most likely because the VPS's are unmanaged and you can test them yourself by using VMWare, VirtualBox, and by downloading the appropriate linux install disc.

Just make sure to install it WITHOUT GUI so you can get use to what it'll be when you start.

The other reason is the VPS's take up a TON more space than even Paid accounts do - there's only so many resources on a node, and VPS's take up a big chunk -each-.

As pointed out by Livewire VPS's use a lot of server resources and therefore are somewhat costly for web hosting companies to maintain. I am fairly sure that the VPS service is the most expensive product currently offered by x10Hosting. Users who understand what a VPS is and have the skills to needed to setup and maintain their own unmanaged VPS find that the price of x10Hosting VPS service is a very good value, but it would probably not be practical to offer this service for free, even on a temporary trial basis. Also, I would imagine that the majority of people interested in VPS service are advanced users who fully understand what VPS service is and have a specific need for VPS service before they obtain the service so they do not need any free trial to determine if it is a service they need.

To more directly answer your question, you can try VPS service by ordering the service and trying it out for a month. Billing can be done on a month to basis. That is the option I currently use on my VPS service. However, you need to understand that VPS service at x10Hosting is unmanaged and you will need a good working knowledge of Apache, Linux, MySql, and Perl, just to name a few things. Frankly, VPS service is not for everybody.

LOL yeah its like $10 to "try" a VPS for a month, if you don't like it then cancel. I have never seen free VPS trials ANYWHERE, it sounds like a recipe for fail.

Does x10 Hosting Want more VPS'es?????
Clearly x10Hosting would like to have more VPS clients. Those are premium accounts that require very little attention or maintenance from the staff because they are unmanaged. But, as stated earlier, VPS service uses a lot of valuable disc space so the service is more expensive to x10hosting in that regard. Also, as stated earlier, people who understand what VPS is and have a need for VPS can read the service description before signing up and determine if x10Hosting VPS suits their needs. Therefore there is simply no good reason to offer any type of free trial on VPS.

I'm under the impression that x10 either has enough VPS servers or is capable of getting more via the datacenter they're tied into should the need arise.

Edit: If I'm not mistaken either the term -should- be VPS Node, rather than server, since Virtual Private Server server seems confusing and I know there's talk about nodes when referencing exactly which server you're on.
