FTP is better than Browser because,
-Unlimited file size
-Full directory upload
-some ftp's have queued upload

Ofcourse browser also has some benefits like decompression.

I can see how FTP would be much better than File Manager, but I've never used it. I can also see how File Manager is good for things like quick fixes, different computers, etc.

FTP gives you detailed statistics that the filemanager does not provide. It also gives you an estimated time of uploads and downloads - or at least my one does ;) Its really easy to use and mine has a great inteface.

FTP anytime, apart from ufclan's reason FTP transactions are usually faster......I myself use FileZilla

I think it depends entirely on the job in hand. I use Dreamweaver to build and design pages and that comes with a built in ftp client. You can set it so that when you hit the save key it uploads any changes instantly if you are logged on.

On the other hand, if I've written a quick page in html in notepad etc, File Manager can actually be quicker if it is just text, though I rarely do things this way now.

I think it depends entirely on your knowledge of ftp clients and the host you are signed up with, there are some hosts that don't allow the use of ftp clients

FTP is way better. But if you are not in a PC with a good FTP program, cPanel 11's file manager works awsome, FTP is faster and easier to use though.

Always use FTP:

Faster uploads
Can pause the uploads
Upload/erase/rename/move multiple files

My favorite FTP: Smart FTP

Personally, I prefer FTP, becuase I use lots of pre-made scripts. Which include more than 100's of files. It would be a huge pain to use File Manager to upload them =O

FTP has always been the choice of many.
It was before web based manager and offers tons of many features with ease of uploads.
Check out cuteftp and many other ftp managers.
Web based are used only when travelling or portability access.
I feel that way, also i like some web managers like cpanel that have really good features.

I have always used FTP up until now, with its upload speeds.

Genrally, now, I use Filemanager for two reasons: zip files and on-the-fly editing.

If you use cuteFTP you should use File manager. CuteFTP 1000 files/hour File manager 2000 files ~3 min (if the 2000 files is zipped).

FTP and File Manager both has its benefits. FTP is great for transferring big files and File Manager is very handy for doing little changes on the site.
