I have been trying to log into WordPress to edit my site since June of last year and keep getting a 404 error. At first, I thought it was just because of the migration so I just let it be, but it has more than enough time that it should be finished so what's going on?

WP was updated to the latest version as of the last time I was able to log in.

I can view the site (familytree.elementfx.com), I just cannot get into WP.

it appears like either your login page was deleted,
or something that the login page needs caused the 404 error.
at least thats what id assume if the wordpress still loads.

were any files deleted ?
last time you updated was it successful ?
or did you get errors.
(is assume it would be hard to remember after waiting 7 months)

maybe try asking for help on the official wordpress website.
as x10hosting doesn't normally provide script support.
unless other wordpress users have had the same problem.

Looks like somewhere along with the update your site started redirecting to https rather then using regular http, this is the root issue actually since free hosting does not fully support ssl (the only certificate available would be the server one which is not valid for your domain and would produce an error).

I have made a small modification to your account so you should now be able to get to the admin login and complete the update of wordpress. Keep in mind though that you will get an error about the certificate being invalid and depending on browser you may have an option to continue to the site after accepting or bypassing this error.

In chrome (at least my version of it) it says connection is not private , and I have two options "Advanced" or "go to secure website" (my translations so wording may differ). Under advanced you have the option to continue to your site as well as a bit information about why. It is possible you had a certificate created by cPanel at some point as it was mistakenly turned on at an update if I recall right, but that cert would no longer be valid.

Once you get into admin area make sure the site is set to use http only.

Thank you! I was able to get into the site and update WP. I am not sure where to go and set the site to use "http" only though. I looked through all the options in Settings and the closest thing was selecting how I wanted links to look and they all say "https".

Believe it is under general settings. Where you set site url and wordpress url or some like that.
