I am hosting 2 forums via X10hosting and both are experiencing the same error. Did some researching and I beleive I'm running into an issue where "ModSecurity" needs to be whitelisted from https://www.phpbb.com/community/viewtopic.php?f=46&t=2132136

I am hosting phpbb forums and when I place more than 3 inline links it gives a 403 error
example:
Code:
[url=www.google.com]Click Here to go to google[/url]

admittedly I'm not the most experienced with phpbb as of yet and have the forums functioning. I am not sure where to find the error logs to confirm. That this is the case with 100% certainty.

I believe I have seen on the forum, that no more than three links are allowed on free sites. This is to combat spammers using the free servers.

The number of staff who are able to make rule exceptions is tiny, and exceptions aren't made automatically. @Dead-i ?

I can use non-inline links to my hearts content it's simply when I use bbcode to make the link text different than the web address:
Code:
[url=www.google.com]Click Here to go to google[/url]
vs
Code:
[url]www.google.com[/url]

That's because people can see where the naked links are going. With links behind text, people have to watch their status bars, and that assumes they have status bars in their browser/on their device, know enough to look, and understand that they can't always trust that, even. The people who do nasty things on the web don't exactly paint a big "this is a nasty thing" sign on the dark pattern elements.

Right, I thought you were saying that it bluntly wouldn't allow more than 3 links.

If I chose to upgrade my hosting, how far would I have to upgrade to be able to post more than 3 inline links to my forums in the posts?

There's only one upgrade path available at the moment, and that's to Premium (where you have control over things, for the most part - it's pretty much bog-standard shared hosting competing on price, features and service).

If it were available, you'd have been good on Illuminated as well, but Prime would still need staff to create the rule exceptions since your account would still be on the regular Free Hosting servers, but with different limits set. Unfortunately, Prime and Illuminated plans are on hold and unavailable for new purchase at the moment: there's no guarantee they'll be back, but if they are it will be contingent on changes in progress to Free Hosting panning out as planned (security settings, automated maintenance, and so forth). I can't tell you more than that (it's not secret, it's just not certain).

Hi,

I apologize for the delay here; unfortunately I haven't been here in the last week. I have disabled the rule that confines submissions to 3 URLs for your account. Please let me know if you continue to experience any issues.

Thank you,
