You have to go to your registrar and there should be a spot in their control panel to make nameservers. Use an existing domain for ns1 and ns2. (Not sure who your registrar is so I can not help with that.) Then in WHM under "Server Configuration" ==> "Basic cpanel & WHm setup" ==> Basic config. Right at the bottom you will see a place for 4 nameservers. Each one has to have it's own ip. I had to buy a ip address from here to do it. Enter your nameservers here and click assign an ip and add an A entry for both ips and you should be done. Also, please note that DNS usually takes up to 48 hours to propagate.

I guess it's also worth noting that you don't NEED all 4 nameservers ieither. 2 will do. Just thought I would slip that in there.

I have just got my first VPS as a testing area for some websites i want to set live and I was wondering if I have my existing domain registered with X10, do I still need to have my own nameservers, or can i use ns1.x10hosting.com, ns2.x10hosting.com

That would be something for the staff to answer really. I would think if you entered x10 nameservers into your vps and then on your url at your domain registrar it should work fine I would think. Unless they have set it so you have to have your own. I'm not sure.

You would need your own (or it would actually work if you set up an A record pointing to the server I believe if you only need it to work for one domain). Our name servers are NOT connected to the VPSs in any way, meaning records would not automatically be created for domains you put on your VPS.

I found it to be a lot easier to use a 3rd party solution like CloudFlare - especially as it means if I wipe my VPS, I can not only easily redirect web traffic to my work VPS node, but also I don't lose any emails as DNS stays up!

For those not running WHM, I did write a step by step how-to right here on x10's forums. It is for CentOS 5.5, I don't think it would be much different on CentOS 6.5. If anyone tries it and finds out it is, feel free to send me a PM and I will try to work on one for CentOS 6 when I can.
