Ecuador and Brasil are passing the equator... I only don't know which of both is the obvious one you referred to :)

On which part of America (North, Middle, South) would a ship end that is starts in the harbour of Porto directing exactly West, and goes straight ahead all the time (so no sea current, wind, or stirring wheel changes its direction it continues straith ahead).

If you mean Porto Spain, then the ship would hit somewhere around NJ here in the US which I guess would qualify as Middle.

hmmm...

West by Magnetic compass or West by GPS and inertial tracker. and based on the rotational pole of the Earth?

I think they'd wind up about PEI, Canada.

lol, I think he meant west as by straight left across a common table map. ;)
