How to redirect a directory to it's subdomain?

I have forums software installed under mysite.domain.com/forums. The forums are accessed through forums.mysite.domain.com. Accessing the forums through the subdomain works fine, but when they are viewed through the main forums directory, 404 errors occur. I would like to have it so that when someone goes to mysite.domain.com/forums, they get redirected to forums.mysite.domain.com. I tried doing this through cPanel but got redirection loop errors.

Any ideas?

I've placed a line in your .htaccess file to redirect /forums to your forums' subdomain. Please let me know whether this is working as intended.
