Though is the shard designed so that you can only create humans because when I tried making an elf it wouldn't let me.

mmmm, i want to give this game a try, but i still dont know much about it.
What kind of mmorpg is this?? I have played other MMORPG's like WoW or Knight Online and games like that. Is it the same idea as those?? Also, does it have good graphics that require super computers to be able to play, cuz my video card sucks really bad on the comp that i want to be playing with. Oh, what races or vocations can you chose in this game??

near as i can tell (since the site posted for information was down (or peerguardian2 killed it and i didnt catch it) ), it's a game world. i'm guessing different shards would be like playing a game in a space setting, then joining another server and playing underwater. not the best analogy, but i'm guessing it's just another world to play on, so if you hate one world you can go join another one and see if the world is any better.

I have some other stuff downloading at the moment so i'll add this to my list of stuff to get while my pc runs overnight. with luck i wont have to erase files on my pc to make it fit (i'm running on a gig free)

EDIT 1: found a different site, http://uo.stratics.com . on one of the pages for building houses, they mention shards, and viewing the same location on another shard. my new guess: shards = game servers

EDIT 2: peerguardian2 was killing uo.com, the site works just fine(noticed it was blocking stuff it shouldnta been when it didnt let uo patch). fyi to downloaders after me: unless my case is unique, it takes a long time to patch...

EDIT 4: final edit: just wanted to say thanks for saving me from getting a job - now i dont have to pay for ashen empires, because this is better and free

EDIT 5: ok so edit 4 wasnt the final one, but i figured out why you can't create elves. Hold your mouse over the "elves" selector. If you read the entire box, the last line states you need the mondains legacy expansion pack in order to create an elf. bummer, but since the servers free i dont see a reason to so much as think twice about it (if you want elves badly enough, go play ashen empires or pay for uo)

as far as i know there probably is already a bittorrent download somewhere, but i'm not sure what you mean by "Safer download." I downloaded and scanned, no virii. Lately a few torrents on BT have issues being free of virii when they say they are (false positive? explain the totalled pc in the other room)...

on a side note, i stopped using the x10 uo server a while back, wasnt many people playing. I might have to get back into that one though, since it was actually all set up (i'm running my own server for me and my irl friends, but there no spawns so everyone had to be an admin so they can [add their monsters). the skillgains were better than Oblivion's as well(another shard, also free, heavilly modified, but the skill gains are reeeely hard to get).

This one time, at band camp! No, no, really, this one time on the Steam Network I got extremely lucky or something, but I was Downloading Half Life 2 at about 12 Mbits/s It was INSANE! But normally I just get around 600-700 kb down.

What is Ultima Online? As I don't want to spend like 1hr downloading this. And then find out it's something I wouldn't normally play.

UO is an old mmorpg, but thanks to the magic of RunUO (and some other emu's), the every day player can run their own server. As a special addon, most of them come with scripting capabilities (in the case of RunUO, it uses c#), allowing players to add in unique items and quests if they learn the language.

I find it handy, I'm learning c# so I can add in items I've got a few basic addons though, flashing objects (changing their hues), along with some other crap I'm working on.
