when i click on a post title in my forum i get this;
Not Found
The requested URL /topic,3.msg4.html was not found on this server.

Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.

The content is obviously there, any idea whats up with this ??

Hi freshw10,

This is likely due to a bad rewrite rule in your htaccess file. Please could you check the rules you have in /public_html/.htaccess? :)

Thank you,

Hi freshw10,

You can access hidden files in your cPanel File Manager by ensuring "Show hidden files (dot files)" is checked in the dialog box that briefly appears when clicking "File Manager". ;)

Thank you,

Hi freshw10,

This is likely because you have the Remember option checked. Please try clicking on "Reset All Interface Settings" at the very bottom of the page, and try again. ;)

Thank you,

Nope, no help :(
Disregard thanks anyway.
Dead-i , didnt mean to be short there, its just that i can rebuild in about 5 seconds now :) quicker than trying to figure something out.
When i get all this perfected, i intend to move to paid hosting. This is just my learning curve, and it works very well.
Neil told me how to get to that hidden file thing once, but i forgot what he said, maybe i can do a search and find the conversation ??

Ok, I found several conversations with the same instructions you gave me Dead-i and they simply dont work for showing hidden files. Here is what i do
1. In Cpanel i go to the bottom and click reset all interface settings
2. i go up to the File Manager button and click it and it quickly shows the files with no little box in between to select show all files etc. So Now What ??

Any Ideas ??
It would be handy to be able to see that file, especially in cases like described above. Maybe i could have fixed my site rather than scrapping it.

same issue here on free-hosting server xo4

for a "workaround" we use FTP to download or 'see' the hidden files (dot files) - do our edits here - then upload them
IMO - it is better to edit files on your computer - that way you have a backup - and you can use any programming editor you like

UPDATE: :p I figured out that if you open Cpanel, then right click on file manager, then select open in a new window, that will magically show the hidden files so you can work with them. My public_html/.htaccess is empty. :shifty: lol

Yeah, you're right. But as long as i can get to it some way, im cool. To get it really fixed may be too much to hope for, I certainly dont know how to do it. And i think the right click thing may be easier than all the FTP stuff ? it may be whatever works best for you.

I fixed your thread title as well. "Why ??" is not helpful.
