I was wondering what kind of income does the US tax you on?
i know like a regular job, they tax you. But what about a freelancer, or just a one time job/service.

US.....taxes you on everything you can think of though people hide a lot of their income.

...they tax you on the amount of money you get paid working somewhere....when you buy clothes/food/ when you buy anything at all from a store/ people get taxed on providing services....building a home/fixing the car anything you can think of.

then there are things that should be taxed but are not...because people hide if from the IRS.

When you buy a car...have the guy you are buying the car from write the car out for 200$ when you really paid 30k 40k or 50k for the car....what does it do? for the guy selling the car NONE...this way he gets his real assessed amount for the car...and you get to pay taxes on 200$ not on 30k 40k or 50k.

i'm sure....x10hosting pays taxes....if it is in the USA it should at least...but then the owners can always hide this site from the IRS and keep the money they make from paid members....

if there is any time a person buys or provides a service, one way or another the seller of the person buying something pays taxes for it. I don't agree on this, but it's just the way it is.

I have a book, "Federal Mafia, Income Tax Fraud" (DON'T PAY TAXES!!!)I read parts of it...but it is really really long.....we don't HAVE TO PAY INCOME TAXES....people are just stupid and don't read the fine print in documents.....heck no one reads anything these days, but let their lawyers do it all.....stupid...lawyers.

About the freelancer job....if they ask you for your tax identification number...then they pay taxes for it, and you will have to also. If they don't....and they do "actually" pay you....you don't have to report it for taxes....it can be extra money that someone gave you for your birthday if anyone cares. But if it is freelance work you do, and your only source of income....they will get suspicious on where you get your income from.

One time job or service.....like I said, if they pay you, and did not ask for tax identification number....there is no reason to pay taxes for it....if anyone asks where you got the money...you got it on your birthday....it's as simple as that.

why do you need this?....information...trying to avoid taxes? hehe...no one has yet made a site to help people with avoiding taxes...but not making it obvious.

Overall what I am trying to say.....we get taxed on everything.

so as a student i am right now living under my parents roof, the IRS won't be suspicious of my income because they don't see it. and i should report it, unless i am asked to provide my tax id.

i was wondering because i had never paid taxes, yet, and wanted to know what exactly i had to pay taxes for, which i guess is everything now

thanks for the information

if your parents are filing taxes as a joint account and you are in it...there is nothing to worry about, just report your income to your parents. You should report it, if you are asked for your tax id.

to stay away from trouble...you should always report your income...now if it is a one time job for lets say 100-500$ it should be okay. I am not a tax collector to tell the truth...laws change per state, depending on which state you live in this information may be incorrect.

Please do not quote me on any of this, as what I say can be wrong....

so...let me try to re-sum this

if you are working under the table....have fun with your money.
if you are working, with a company they will ask for Tax Identification, and then yes you will have to file your taxes for it.

There are a number of different taxes though....you are talking about income taxes...

I would suggest getting an accountant to do the taxes, or ask your parents or family/friends who are already doing this for more help....IRS income taxes isn't something I know a lot about, but I do know there are ways of not having to pay income taxes.
