Yes, I am one of those kids who happens to have a Minecraft server.
I transferred from Hostinger, as this service is definitely far better.
I was wondering if I could re-direct my site's subdomain towards my Minecraft server's IP address. I do know about setting up A records and stuff, yet I have tried that, and nothing happens. I read something briefly about this option being cancelled 'For security' or something like that...

Please help,
Thank you.

Hi poopscra,

We do not restrict modifications to your DNS zone, and you can set up an A record from your Advanced DNS Editor. I took a look at your account, and it looks like you have created an A record with the subdomain "play". While this A record is working as intended, it looks like you have pointed it to an IP address that is in the format of 192.168.1.XXX.

This is an internal IP address, because it starts with 192.168. In short, when an IP address is in this format, it will refer to a locally connected computer on the user's current network. Therefore, you may be able to access your server fine, but outside users will be unable to do so. Please ensure you use a public-facing IP address for this, if you want other users to be able to connect to your server.

Please let us know if you have any further questions.

Thank you,

Wow. I feel like such a noob.
Thank You so much for your quick, helpful support :D
Feel free to lock this and throw it into some big trash can :)
One last nooby question, what should the TTL be?

Hi poopscra,

The TTL is the "Time To Live", which is essentially the maximum amount of time the DNS entry will be cached for. Currently, your record is set to 14400 seconds (4 hours), which should be fine. It means that if a computer receives the DNS entry, it will wait up to 4 hours before asking for it again (to see if the IP address has changed at all). ;)

Thank you,

Thanks... again :D
Is there usually a delay in the record actually working? I heard somewhere, it can take 24 hours. I have assigned the right IP, and still nothing. I will wait 24 hours before editing anything, as I think this is the problem :D

Hi,

You're welcome! Yes, if you have just changed your record, it might take some time before you see the change.

You can hurry the process for yourself by flushing your DNS. Here's a guide to do that, under the "Flushing your DNS" heading (not the section on clearing your browser cache). http://x10hosting.com/support/guides/clear-cache-flush-dns-tutorial#flushing-your-dns

Thank you,
Ok, thanks so much, brilliant help service over here on x10 that I wouldn't get anywhere else. I know, Hostinger told me that my site was down for 'maintenance' and the only way to get it off maintenance was to buy premium... something like that.
Stupid.
X10 is amazing, I appreciate all your help, feel free to Lock this thread :)
Have a great day :)
