Via Wikipedia:You got that the wrong way round DNS converts the IP into the domain name.
DNS isn't the only thing you need for domains. You also need A, B and CNAME records - IP address, Name servers (not "domain" name servers) a proxy server (optional) and specific ports
CNAMEs and MX records are not required to access the site. CNAMEs are for subdomains and MX is for mail servers.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Domain_Name_System said:...it translates human meaningful domain names to the numerical (binary) identifiers associated with networking equipment for the purpose of locating and addressing these devices world-wide.
Ow ok I got it.
So I am wondering something, by using dns can't I or anyone else make their own domain name instead of just buying it?
(Sorry I may be oblivious sometimes)
You'd have to register it with (I think) ICANN, and it gets added to the root name servers, the ones in charge of TLDs (.com,.org,etc.).
