I bought the domain itsthelag.com from godaddy.com nothing else just a domain name
I have an account with x10 hosting ( obviously)
I want to start my own forum so when someone googles itsthelag.com it goes to my forum board...
Im confused at how to do it because ive tried solutions and nothing works...
i'd like to do it for free if not VERY CHEAP because ive already paid over 100$ buying and cancelling plans to find nothing works

HELP PLEASE :(

If you'd like help getting this setup I'd be willing to help you. I come from an open source community where I've put my share of hours in coding, helping people and other things. If you cannot get any help or still find yourself stuck feel free to give me a shout.

P.S. - If possible, you should always start out with a free hosting service such as x10 and then upgrade as needed. Therefore you spend little to no money unless absolutely needed. And your site probably won't be in google results right off the bat. You need to give them content to crawl even if that means a landing page..

Step one would be setting the domain up for use with your free account here, to do so you need to fist login at your registrar (godaddy.com) and set the name servers for the domain to be ns1.x10hosting.com and ns2.x10hosting.com. Once you done so and given it a few minutes (can be longer but normally only a few minutes needed) for propagation you log into your account here with us and add the domain to your account. There's two options available, parked domain which acts as an alias for your main domain and addon domain which would act as a separate site located in public_html/itsthelag.com (or a subfolder you configure it to use).

Step two is finding out what forum software you would want to use for this, there's a few to chose from some are free (phpBB, SMF to name a couple) to use others cost money (vBulletin and IPBoard probably the most known ones). Ones you decided on which one to use, download the files from the official site and upload to your account (public_html or a subfolder of that if preferred).

Step three would be creating a database and database user through the account portal under databases. Don't forget to make notes of what you set them to be, including the password for the database user.

Step four is to navigate to the place where you uploaded the forum files (if you put them in the document root for the domain that would be itsthelag.com) and following the onscreen instructions for installing the chosen forum software entering the database details as prompted.

On an exterior looking in note, Use Bing and Google webmaster tools. You'll sign up for them and they will explain to you how to get the SEO information done. Will take some time but then you'll have to get your robots.txt set in your root folder correctly and let the crawlers do their thing for a couple weeks, then you should be in a better position.

Anna, could he not just use Softaculous App Installer? - LOL
Obviously it must be within the list of available software but would automate even the database and everything....

Of course he could, not all forum softwares would be available there though. And in my opinion it is better to install "manually" as you control more then, such as what database to use (softaculous for instance does not allow you to put more then one script in each database, while if you install them manually you can re-use the database for several scripts if needed).

Right now I do not see any SMF on the site but you left some redirection which is messing things up.
Did you add the custom domain as an add on? How did you install SMF?
