Hi all,

I have a free account and it was working well. After a week or so of no updates on the sites I was working on, x10hosting sent me an email telling me the account has been suspended and I had to login to de-suspend it. I did it and everything worked fine. Again after some time I stopped working on my websites and I received the email once again. I ignored it since I was moving from one state to another and I completely forgot it until today. Today I've been asked about the websites I was working on and I realized that even if I logged in I could no longer find my websites hosted on my x10hosting account.
What happened? Have they been removed? How can I retrieve them back?

Sounds like it was suspended for inactivity and then terminated and removed from the system. No backups.

Yes, the mail I received was talking about suspension for inactivity, and that's fine for me, even though 1 week is too early. Well, but at least telling me they were going to terminate my account!? I lost 50+ hours of work! Isn't it possible to recover it somehow?

Sorry, but we can only provide backups to premium customers. In the Terms of Service which you read and agreed to when you signed up, it states that backups are your responsibility and not x10Hosting's. Please see the following sections for further information ( sect. 6 to 8 )

Terms of Service said:
6. System Backups
Backups are the sole responsibility of the customer. x10Hosting retains and offers backups to the customer but does not guarantee this service from failure. It is recommended all customers keep their own backups. Backups will not be provided to account holders who have been suspended for breaching the terms outlined on this page.

7. Inactivity
Accounts found to be inactive are suspended for a 14 day period and then removed from our servers (terminated). All data including any type of backup or stored information is removed with the account. To prevent an account from being suspended for inactivity it is required users visit the x10Hosting Account Portal located at https://x10hosting.com/portal/ at least once every 30 days. Accounts must have a working website within 1 week.

8. Suspensions
If an account is suspended for a breach of the Terms outlined above the account holder will immediately forfeit all rights to the account in question including access to any and all files and\or databases located within the account. x10Hosting is under no obligation to provide backups in full or partial to an account holder that has been suspended.

The requirement is to log in to the account panel once a month - inactivity suspensions are not programmed to take effect before that.

Additionally the suspension is the warning, over the years x10Hosting has had to take the assumption that there will be a high number of users who simply give up with hosting but don't bother to say about it. Unfortunately you are one of those who is a casualty of this.

As dead-I stated quite coldly above, unfortunately due to resource constraints there is no feasible way to provide a backup facility to free hosting customers as it effectively more than doubles the size of each account.

Providing you are not in a blacklisted country, you are free to sign up again; from memory there is a package you can purchase for a minimal number of dollars for a year that removes the activity requirement. Hopefully someone will correct me if I am wrong (and feel free to edit this part of the post if that is the case).
