I would like to address this idea that is highly contested within the scientific community. I used to believe that the earth's gradual warming would be detrimental and that we were a likely cause, but after some further research I'm 100% convinced that global warming is the greatest sham that politicians and the media are promoting.

For those who are optimistic about global warming, here's a movie that might just open your mind a bit:
http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=4340135300469846467

Humans/factories/cars produce a total of 6 gigatons of CO2. Compared to the oceans, decaying plant life, and bacteria, 150 gigatons of CO2 are produced. Quite frankly, we're minute! Additionally, the earth has had much warmer warming periods than those we're currently experiencing.

Meanwhile, let's put it to a vote!

Okay so we may not produce as much as Nature etc, but don't you feel we should be doing something to limit it as much as possible? so by stopping us from creating 6 gigatons of CO2, we shrink it down so its a lot less. It might make it a bit slower in happening that way!

Taken as a whole CO2 is only 0.04% of the atmosphere, so we only comtribute a negligable amount, and CO2 ISN'T the only greenhouse gas. Heck, greenhouse gases may not even be the cause of global warming / global cooling / climate change (cc is my preffered term).

@ Erik: I watched that programme on it's TV premiere and I have always been of the view it is a sham.

The point everyone misses is that we don't say there is no such thing as Global Warming - we merely dispute the causes.

I do agree with erik, however we need to put a little blame on ourselves. There are a few things I would change about your opinion though. Earth was made to sustain itself. Thus we are throwing it out of balance with our so called "minute" amount. Still either way you look at it, we are doing a tiny bit of damage. The damage is apparent if it is concentrated. But you have to think, if we keep doing a tiny little percentage, it will add up. But I do think that everyone is worrying too much.

I think its more of a cycle that nature is going through, like low amount of births in Estonia.

One year things are X way, other year maybe even Z way.

I'm in the minority on this, but that six gigatons of CO2 might be the proverbial "straw that broke the camel's back". Think of it this way: You decide, for some reason, to fill up a box with little sheets of paper. There may be no noticeable change now, but in the future, there will be.

Even if there were no man-made global warming, we still need to worry about all of that man-made pollution we are putting up in the air, and all that garbage we are dumping into ever-growing landfills.

I agree that pollution is bad, but pollution consists of various nitrates and sulfates we put into the air; CO2 isn't so bad. CO2 levels have been higher in the past from high temperatures.. everything is cyclical

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20070407/ap_on_sc/hurricane_conference

"A top hurricane forecaster called
Al Gore "a gross alarmist" Friday for making an Oscar-winning documentary about global warming.

Gray, an emeritus professor at the atmospheric science department at Colorado State University, has long railed against the theory that heat-trapping gases generated by human activity are causing the world to warm.

Over the past 24 years, Gray, 77, has become known as America's most reliable hurricane forecaster; recently, his mentee, Philip Klotzbach, has begun doing the bulk of the forecasting work."

There is only a certain amount of carbon in the world, I say we plant hundreds of acres of pine trees (they grow quickly) let them grow for around 10 - 15 years then cut them down and throw them into the ocean. That will place a lot of the carbon that is damaging the atmosphere at the bottom of the ocean and if we do that for a few decades our problem will be solved, just keep planting and chopping.

technically the trees will keep absorbing the CO2, so I agree with your plan in its theory, just not the bit about throwing them in teh bottom of teh ocean! I would only do that if we ran outta room!

So you would throw all the trees and stuff on the moon or the sun?? Not a bad idea!

Man didn't make global warming. Oh no, like most things we just discovered it.

Newton didn't make gravity did he? No, just discovered it.

I mean, records have shown there were many periods of warmer and cooler periods throughtout Earth's short history. And we're still coming out of an ice age; ergo global warming.

But that isn't to say that our activities haven't affected it. They sure have, they've accellerated global warming to an unsustainable rate IMO.

Its not just C02 that is the probelm either. I think there is too much of a focus on it really. Just look at LA for example. Does that air look clean to you? No, and its not C02 that is causing that. There are known health problems associated with certain types of polution as well.

Its not just for our health either, but for wealth as well. The "developed" world really needs to cut its dependancy on fossil fuels. Not only is much of it coming from politcally unstable regions, unless a new source is found, we're going to run out of it. And run out in our lifetimes.

If we just sit back and let that happen, it won't be good for anybody. best case scenario: more regular and longer blackouts. Which, in a world were much more of the economy is based on electrical items. Thats not good.

Worst case: Global Energy War. Those with a lot of it having to fight off attacks from others to get it, countries with plutonuim reserves being invaded.

So whether or not you agree that global warming is caused by man-made polution or even just effected by it, I think you should agree we should do something about the suposed causes anyway.

in my view
nature has a cyclic process and some distubances in it
and this causes production of co2
and man is distubing that cyclcic process and producing more amount of co2
as spartan erik said there may be 150 giga tons of co2 produced by nature and 6 by man
but i think there would be a remarkable decrease in 150 g tons, if man would have not started chopping trees continuosly
since in the cyclic process plants play a good role in converting co2 into carbohydrates
and i disagree with the above plan because plants absorb co2 only in live conditions

I don't think there is any Global Warming. Scientists have found that the sun has about ten factors that go in 100 year cycles... And when multiple of these hit max at once, it heats up. Well guess what? They found that several of them have hit max...

Okay, I originaly voted that I believed in man-made Global warming.

I want to change that to the fact that we just need to try and stop the global warming now.

Who cares if it is our fault or not!

We should be stopping it.

It does not matter who's to blame while we are drowning in the oceans.
(even if that is a pretty funny picture)

I don't believe in global warming.
This is partly because of all the lies the newspapers are publishing eg:
They say that power stations produce loads of smoke, and in the picture they show a chimney... with loads of steam in it.
Also, according to some sources, we are still in an iceage. They say that the definition of an iceage is when there are ice caps. There are plenty of them so it stands to reason that it should be heating up.

I picked no mainly because theres's too much info you need to know to determine this, and I could write up a lot on it as well. Besides, we really only have a limited amount of accurate weather data, so we won't be able to determine if "Global Warming" is man made, or if it's just a natural cycle. But yes, I do agree that there's too much pollution in the air, even if it doesn't play a key role in the global warming notion. But yet again, Earth does have it's mysterious ways of balancing itself out after a while.

i think it is partly our falt but it is mainly nature that create pollution and causes global warming i still think that we should reduce the amount we are currently producing to as little as possible
