Moved my domains over. Almost bought hosting, but keep getting 503s and 404s.

Well, I was almost at the point where I was going to give you guys some money, but weirdo problems happen:
My site is php and has worked fine on a previous host.
On the X10 server, I can load the root directory files (e.g. index.php) but any php scripts in a subdir give me the following:
503 Service Unavailable
The server is temporarily unable to service your request due to maintenance downtime or capacity problems. Please try again later.

Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.

I know it's free hosting, but if it doesn't work, then what is the point?

If someone gave me free shoes with holes in the bottom, I'd say "no thanks"...

Hey Neil,
My brain just clicked - ("I better make sure everything looks right before complaining to support!")
Checked permissions on my scripts and for some reason I had them set at 666. My fault!
Obviously the server was hiccuping due to the writable php files.
Anyways I've got it fixed now. The additional 404 does seem a bit odd though (and neither error really gives any indication of the actual cause).

The "Additionally a 404 error..." part just means that the sever couldn't locate the default custom 503 error page in the proper location--it's a normal error.
