According to the link, 1&1 offers a free *.biz domain for the first year.

Be aware of this possible consequence: While some domain registrars might have a promotional fire sale domain prices, it could possibly become a costly affair if you intend to keep the domain longer than a year.

I believe that 1&1 has maintained a consistently low prices on domain registering, but this is just a general warning that everyone should keep in mind when registering domains anyway.

Thanks for the share, sinogap!

I hate these free offers that need a credit card, I think payment options should be optional until the free offer expires

I have not yet tried them but wouldn't like to. What do they need the credit card for? confirmation or making sure you but the domain after the end of the year? I would really buy my own domain than using such which is doubtful. I really agree with azntechguy

Providing credit card information is usually required to prevent spam (which is really bad for a domain network) and to prove your identity and age otherwise you would probably to able to make a domain from different computers every year and the system just wouldn't work, don't you think.

I'm not fond of the sites that require 200+ posts to get a domain name.

Because the company that registers your domain has to pay to actually register your domain on the domain servers you will HAVE to pay. There is no such thing as a real free domain ... someone is paying for it. Your best bet is to just try and get one here ... or, personally, find a friend, relative or even yourself to buy one.

Makes life easy, and yeah... I know some of you are young... I was in the same situation about 2 years ago. I got a debit card from my bank though so I can buy domains now.

I register my domains at aplus.net for like $8.95/domain and get the domain guard option for another $8.95/year/domain so that my personal information isn't in the WHOIS. Instead aplus.net registers with their own information... saves me the spam and such.
