It turns out Netscape is over for good. Which is very said.
It shocks me because they just released Netscape Navigator 9 which is basically firefox with a netscape skin and some default/built in extensions, but it really does run very smoothly and much faster than firefox in my opinion.
I went ahead and downloaded it tonight, and while i was looking for skins i saw this: Quote: End of Support for Netscape web browsers
and it was posted on "December 28th 2007", which is almost a month ago.
I wonder why i haven't heard anything about this until now? It's crazy. You can read the entire announcement here: http://blog.netscape.com/2007/.....-browsers/
The reaosn this kinda makes me sad is that Netscape was the first browser I had ever used back in the 90's when i first got online. All my early computer memories had it in it. I even tried to cling to it until 2003, but that's after AOL bought It and basically ruined it as they did with ICQ after the bought it. So i quit using it then, but i always checked out each version they came out with in hopes that it'd be nice and worth using, but hasn't ever been since AOL gobbled it up.
Now they are just letting it go. I guess to die and disappear for good. I wish some how they'd just give it to the Mozilla foundation and mozilla could bring it back, but i doubt they'll ever do that since AOL paid like 10billion USD on it. At least then though the name would live on, and get back to where it started, etc.
I really was shocked by reading this. Even though i haven't really touched the browser in years, i was hoping that i'd be able to again someday, or maybe i'm just sad because those old memories are just memories now, i'm unsure, ha its just sad (sorry half asleep, almost 3am).
Anyways did any one else already hear about this? I know some of you are young and stuff and might not have very many memories with Netscape, but there are also some older people here who probably only used it back in the day.
I keep hoping some how ICQ gets brought back, but i think AOL is intentionally bringing that program down also. Actually i think it is already gone.
R.I.P netscape
