New Subdomain help

Hello;

I am hoping someone can help me. I have never made a subdomain before. I have been to the FAQ and the help wiki (it has a link to a Jumpline.com on difference between parked domains) I also went through the 'search' with 'subdomain' as search word in forum and can find a lot about when domains do not work and things when people already know what they are doing (as I didn't understand quite a bit of what I read but will in time as I go) but I can not seem to find the place or url to start for these questions I am hoping someone can help me.

How do I make a subdomain in Cpanel (with a free account)
Does it have to be a special name? or be in a special format to work. e.g if my domain was lighteningbolt.elementfx.com what would my subdomain have to be called?
and if i make a mistake how to delete the subdomain that I made wrong? & does it delete straight away.

In cPanel you will have the option to add "subdomains", it is under the section "Domains".

Once you clicked the icon you will be presented with a page that at the top have a form for creating a subdomain and choosing its document root (or create one if the folder does not already exist). The subdomain will be in the form subdmain.lighteningbolt.elementfx.com using the example domain you mentioned.

At the lower half of the page you will see a list of existing domains, and also have the option to remove and manage the subdomain (you can change the document root and set a redirect for it if needed).

If you make a mistake, simply chose the option to remove and the domain would be immediately removed, its document root would remain though in cPanel, so you'd need to remove that manually if needed.

Thank you very much for your reply and instructions for the subdomain and control panel as I seem to be lost. Will try to do as you have directed. Thanks for the help very much appreciated
