I used Opera for a while once, and I loved it. I have always been faithful to Mozilla Firefox though. For some reason, I just love it more than any of the other browsers. :p

Opera's got the best interface, and unlike firefox things dont "pop out" of the main window.
The download manager, the mail client, the widgets, every thing is neatly integrated.
It supports torrents. Its skinable. Over the years it has been definatively proven to the the lightest, fastest, neatest and securest (yes even more secure than firefox) browser.
Its acid 2 compliant.
It comes with a built in spell checker.
To top it off, there is a J2ME version for mobile phones (its uber cool, try it even if you dont have GPRS activvated!)
Importantly, it introduced tabbed browsing and mouse guestures truly boost you efficiency.

Opera is definately #1, it is the smartest, coolest, safest, fastest and a whole bunch of other superlatives.
And it beats firefox.
End of story.

This post comes to you through Opera 9.23

Forget Opera, Firefox is amazing, it's the fastest and one of the most popular web browsers on the net. :)

Perhaps provide some reasoning/links why Firefox is faster? I use Opera myself and I find it to start faster, use less memory, and generally act faster in every regard. On a very few pages I find Opera takes an excessive time to render compared to others but the other benefits are worth the little inconvenience.

I located one page with some speed comparisons provided by link below showing Opera 9 and the new beta 9.5 vs. Firefox, their beta and IE7. I am sure others can find more hopefully. Just because Firefox is popular does not mean it is the best, anyone remember the DVORAK keyboard layout?

Opera is supposed to be a little faster than firefox, but I have not confirmed that

Opera is the fastest browser on the planet. Zdnet, cnet, softpedia and a whole bunch of others have confrimed it.

Take my word for it..... you will not regret it ;)

If you need further proof why opera is the best then just visit this site on *any* other browser: http://home.comcast.net/~wolfand/

Then :read this:

It's good because firewalls don't seem to be able to affect it, xD. I use FireFox for just about everything, though, because it suits me, and they have fixed a lot of bugs since the last release.

Internet Explorer is just plain out bad, there was a study done where it showed all the security breaches and things like that. I will look for the link later.

Overall, I would call it a tie between FireFox and Opera. However, I have not tried a lot of alternative browsers, such as Safari.

I have started using Opera recently (Firefox is my main browser).
I like the uncluttered layout and high res display i.e. the full 1280x1024 (for my screen res) and full screen modes. (Firefox gives 1280x1002) That extra 22pix seem to make a better browsing experience.
I also like built in torrent downloader etc.
Opera has better ActiveX support which is useful.
It is the firefox extensions and customizability which clinch it tho.
And the fact I have now got too used to using Firefox.
But Opera still great and I find myself using both Opera and Firefox side-by-side when browsing.
