I want to create a display for photographs that slide left or right; a digital portfolio in the end.
I know flash alright, but I'm wondering if css or java would be better applied.
Any thoughts/comments?

that's a tough one. i've got a fading image gallery in a site that i'm working on w/ javascript, but it seems to slow down the comp alot...

I would probably use Flash for it...
But then Javascript would probably do it better and all browsers support it.
It's up to you though, try them both perhaps and then see which you like best :)

Not necessarily, the site below managed with only a little choppy sliding. I would use flash, but this seems Ok.

Flash is made for these sorts of effects, so you wont have to spend hours finding a way to code it in JavaScript.

Try hosting your pix at www.photobucket.com .. they have a big hosting space (1 or 5GB think) .. can host image sizes up to 3MP .. have a lot cool ajax apps to do foto editing and can create slide shows for free .. check out 1 of my website www.fx1academy.com .. the slide show was created from their site ..

It is darn easy to use and it is FREE!!! can also do mas uploading .. especially if you are Flock browser (www.flock.com) ..
