PHP/SMTP mail not working

I submitted a ticket nearly a week ago (#14044) now regarding the mail function not working. I haven't heard anything yet. I had to change the way my users registered to my site due to this issue.

I have been using GMail for some time without any issue until roughly the 29th of April. Here's the error I'm getting in my phpBB logs:

Note that this exact setup works on my testing server with no problems.

Anyone else having this issue and have a remedy to try?

Unless you are a premium member, you may not use the SSL mail. Use the non-SSL instead, or upgrade.

Only in Free Hosting sections. You need a certain amount of posts before you can reply to other people in Free Hosting forums.

Where does it say this? According to the wiki:
To use external mail servers, you must use SMTP. We impose no restriction when using external mail servers, but the provider you use might impose its own.
. Plus it worked flawlessly for months until late April.

Only in Free Hosting sections. You need a certain amount of posts before you can reply to other people in Free Hosting forums.
Again, where is this mentioned? And if it was only in the free hosting sections, why can't I reply anywhere else?

Are you using SSL or TLS?

And SSL & SMTP does work on Chopin.
It doesn't matter if I use TLS or SSL. See here:

ive had hit and miss experiences with php sendmail and hasnt been working 100% since i can remember .

Regular php mail/sendmail never worked for me that's why I always used SMTP with GMail instead. It use to work 100%.

Stoli seems to have issues since upgrade. I have open ticket for days now no answer. Ticket system is disaster.
All the servers are having issues, not just Stoli, or Boru in my case. As far as the ticket system, it's a disaster because people are abusing it without reading the status updates or the forum, which hurts people with legitimate issues.

I'm on Boru and mail is working just fine. I use the cPanel email, though. As for SSL, I was citing from the various posts around the forums:

As for replying in the Free Hosting support forum -- this is the official support channel for Free Hosting. You need to have elevated privileges to respond to threads here (currently, that means having at least 300 forum postings, although you can't actually do anything until you have achieved Community Advocate status.) Just because you're on Boru and your email is working fine doesn't mean that mine is. I even tried to setup an email account here and while I don't receive errors the mail doesn't go through. As far as those links that is for https (secure web), not email.

If you would actually read that you would've noticed this post from Corey
If you're using gmail's SMTP server it will work fine. If you are using our SMTP server it will not go out.
I'm using Gmail's SMTP (tls://smtp.gmail.com).

There are many threads here with people replying with very little post counts. And as far as that link you've provided I believe that was for the old Official Support forum which no longer exists (and looks like posts were moved here).

I do appreciate you trying to help but please be sure you know what you are talking about before submitting a reply.

My PHP sendmail function also isn't working for me (I'm on Starka) and seems to have been working intermittently for the past month or so. I submitted a ticket about it yesterday, but if I keep having problems with it working then I'll have no choice but to switch hosts. It's a very important feature of my website.

My SMPT through Gmail is also no longer working. The last it worked was April 25th. What is the problem now?

PS I am on Starka and using Google Apps

I'm having the exact same problem. I am trying to connect to secure gmail server as I have always done. Why is the connection request for gmail server being redirected to stoli.x10hosting.com?

I'm on Boru and mail is working just fine. I use the cPanel email, though.

Well, I use the cPanel email, too, and I haven't been able to receive email since March 26th. I can send email. But emails sent to my account just bounce. I've opened a couple of tickets since then, every time it looks like Boru is working again and has "resolved" in its service status but the tickets are just closed out. I changed the email address on my website but I don't know what other messages I may have missed. Still waiting for it to work again or to get some help with it. One reason I went with x10 Hosting was because they offered email and I wouldn't have to change my email address.

The email issues will hopefully be resolved in the next week. We started implementation of some specialized software for emailing filters, however it required routing changes on edge routers that may be breaking external routing that you guys are using. We are working with our DC and the software vendor to work through some technical issues that have came up regarding it.

No problem. If I don't hear any good news by Monday I'll have the changes reverted which should fix any external outgoing connections. Mail is very sensitive on free hosting due to the severity it is abused, it's a constant battle to try and filter out spam vs legit email especially when people are sending the spam from your servers. :)
