I was planning on installing phpBB3 on my website but there are so many files that manually uploading each one via the file manager would take ages. Is there an effective way of uploading the entire folder without so many clicks or do I need to manually upload each and every file there one at a time? Also I am planning on integrating the login system for phpBB3 with the rest of my site. Would this be possible?

Sorry if I sound a bit ignorant. I'm really bad at all of this uploading and control panel stuff though I'm actually not that bad at coding sites. I'v never installed a forum system on a web host after all. ;)

Thanks in advice.

(If you find it if you still need help then let me know.)

File Transfer Protocol

You need a FTP 'client' (program) on your computer to connect to x10hosting. There are several good free ones. CNET list of good and free ones for download.

Allows you to upload and download files (lots at once if you want/need) from a server. Also allows you do do 'bookkeeping', like deleting files (yours) on the server, changing file permissions.

Actually, you should upload the single compressed file that you download from phpBB's site. Then, go to file manager, find the file, and extract it (it's one of the buttons at the top). The advantage of this is that the chmod permissions will all be set already, and it's much faster than uploading the directory, even through FTP.

To be honest, the first response is probably the one you'll find most useful. On your cPanel there should be a link towards the bottom called Fantastico. When you open up fantastico it will give you a list of scripts, including phpBB3, that it can install automatically for you. I installed WordPress using fantastico and it made me hate myself for not having known about it when I installed phpBB3. If you prefer a more hands-on approach, then FTP is the way to go.

Yeah, fantastico is the easiest but if you want to add certain styles RIGHT AWAY you COULD use and FTP.

If you decide to get a FTP client, please. Take 10 minutes and read the documentation, instructions, tutorials, etc that will be on the site.
