Question about Content

Hi there!

I'm not exactly sure when I created my account here, however, I had grown tired of 000webhost.com's very bad service for quite a while and created my account here and setup a "testing" enviroment as it is for the moment until I've completed our new website that will match the current forum's skin and setup.

Now, just today, my account over at 000webhost.com had been cancelled because I apparently was in violation of their Terms of Service, for abusive content or general abuse and they will not provide me with a recent backup of my forum's database or any of my files for "security reasons".

So because of that I've kind of gotten skittish about what to do.

Basically, I'm one of the officers in my World of Warcraft guild located on Neptulon, Europe. We're a mediocre raiding guild and because of that, we have the following;
- A cronjob that queries the guild's XML file located on the WoW Europe Armory every 12-24 hours. (Once to twice a day)
- Our forum software from Simple Machines
- A DKP Point system from eqDKP-Plus.com
- and a PHP powered website holding information about our raiding progress, information about our guild, information about our requirements for becoming a member of our guild, information on how to apply to our guild and things like that..

As my 000webhost account was cancelled because of the above contents, is it in violation of x10hosting's Terms Of Service or will it in any way subject me to losing all of my information and hard work in creating a world of warcraft community on the web like previously mentioned? I've read your ToS a few times over now and I have not been able to see anything that would subject me to that kind of treatment, so I'm kindly asking you guys to enlighten me.

From what you have provided, none of the above seems to breach the terms of service. Just be aware that content on the forums that is abusive/vulgar may be a breach of the terms of service. So ensure you have anti-spam features in place and if you see vulgar activities or abusiveness on your forums just moderate the posts or delete them.

Also, anything frowned upon by WoW will get you in trouble here too.

Also, as a general rule you should always make your own backups. Even on paid hosts. If their servers crash, you are out of luck. The most a paid host will reimburse you is the cost of a month's use. For all your data.

Free hosts are very problematic with backups. Fact of Life.

Figure how far back you are willing to lose. A week? 3 days? Then set up a schedule to make and download backups.

Of course not.

As much as I hate spam of any kind, I always make sure that I have a valid version of reCapta that google provides active to battle any kind of spam related user-accounts, and even then, I set access options to every forum and sub-forum/childs to battle it as well as the few areas that are open to public (regular registered members) are subject to only being visible to the user who created the post and certain membergroups, Moderator/Global Moderator membergroup and Administrators.

So it should effectively defeat any kind of attempt to create or provide spam.

As for the rest, it's all about common sense, so I tend to moderate and get help moderating people.

I just want to cover my own ass and avoid the major face-slapp I got earlier today where one member sent a StarCraft 2 Beta key to another.

And yeah, I've learned my lesson. Though I always tend to follow WoW's own ToS as well before doing anything.

You've pretty much got it all covered, obviously its impossible to block spam bots 100%, just do your best to keep everything in order.
