The status page includes:

MySQL has been started in safe mode in order to perform a check and repair of all databases. Please refrain from attempting to modify your databases, as they will not be able to write changes.

Does this refer to just the db structure? Or does it include writes (INSERT, UPDATE, etc....) too?
