I have recently signed up with Free Hosting, and am testing hosting a WordPress website. The load time for the website is regularly taking over 2 minutes. Is this just a feature of the fact it's a free account? It seems very slow even keeping that in mind!

I'm wondering if the load time would increase if I was paying for an upgraded account, because otherwise I will be looking elsewhere.

Hi,

That's certainly not normal. I took a look, and it seems like your website does take a very long time to load at first, and then subsequent refreshes are quick. This makes me think that our cache server is stepping in on the second refresh, so a certain element of your website is taking time to generate. Could a WordPress plugin or theme be causing this perhaps?

Thank you,

Thanks for investigating.

I reviewed everything to do with my WordPress website eg. tried deactivating various content & plugins, running optimisation processes etc.. but without any noticeable change in load time. The only thing that made any significant difference was the 'WP Super Cache' Wordpress plugin, which 'generates static html files from your dynamic WordPress blog'.

However I have now signed up for Premium Hosting and the site load time has now dropped to just a few seconds.

Good to know Premium Hosting has an edge over the Free hosting.
have been running WordPress on the free hosting with no problems of lag but now have removed it to try and run Drupal 8. Now that's making the server struggle.

Hope the slow load is solved.

One problem free hosting servers have is the number of persons assigned to a server. If the majority of persons on a server are trying to run a plugin heavy blog and have a lot of "flash-bang" elements, then when several try to load at the same time, resources are going to suffer.
