Softaculous MyBB * Could not write the Configuration File settings.php

I recently had mybb but it got hacked and i didnt have a recent back up for it :nuts:

Now when i try installing MyBB in the root directory, i get

• Could not write the Configuration File settings.php

I am on adfree hosting...

I'm a noob with PHP and filezilla isnt uploading manual install properly :dunno:

and im also getting this php error, just view my site http://blazingcomputer.pcriot.com/

Hello, please make sure the webserver has access to write to the file settings.php you can right click the file in the file manager and change the permissions to allow this.

Also, for the php error Hellsheep missed, there's a file "init.php" missing in the subfolder "inc" - that's why the page is failing to load.


Warning: require_once(/home/blazing/public_html/inc/init.php) [function.require-once]: failed to open stream: No such file or directory <--- see?

Hi,

I couldn't find a settings.php file so i uploaded it manually, i will now CHMOD them appropriately and i will edit this post with the results

Have you tried deleting all the files and restarting the install from softaculous again?

EDIT: Okay thanks again i will try that.

EDIT2: I deleted all the files in public_html and reinstalled, it comes up with the same error, and the files appear. I think its missing loads of files because i cant see a plugins, themes folder etc. when im in the file manager, and the admin folder just has index.php in it :\

Okay, i'm going to test my account on stoli to see if this works. I'll reply here shortly.

Hello, can you please check to ensure the mysql database doesn't already exist? Also check that you are filling out the information correctly during the install. It installed perfectly on my stoli account.

OK, i will delete all the databases (as i dont need them)

will edit this post when i get results

EDIT: Apparently i have no SQL databases, and im still getting the error

do you want me to print screen the information im filling in? (Ill blank about my password)

oh, and on a side note, when i used to have mybb i used to always get 404 errors, i refreshed the page and it went back to normal...

and Fantastico gives me a 404 error.

i just had a thought:

Could you delete my account, then i create it again and everything should be back to normal???

You're welcome. It seems there was probably some config/temp files stored somewhere from a previous installation that was causing problems. You could always move the install to the root directory now and then change the configs to reflect the change.
