I have a website that connects to a database out of x10hosting but doesn't seem to be able to connect to it properly, is x10hosting blocking connection out of the website?

x10hosting blocks direct access to outside databases. No exceptions are granted.

x10hosting also blocks outside access to their databases.

On free hosting there is no remote mysql. You can only connect our database server from a script located on your account with us.

Premium hosting allows for that though.

I believe that is a "feature" of cPanel that is actually inoperable. It has been around for a long time. Much as Postgres was shown as an option for a long time when it was not.

If, for some reason, it does work for now, the Admins will block it as soon as possible. So it doesn't make sense to try to gain access now.

I haven't been able to confirm weather it should work or not yet. It is very much possible it just sits there but are actually blocked by firewall (as it has been in the past with us not being able to atcually take it out of cPanel's displayed feature list).

IF it does work however, the remote host would be whatever IP (or host name) you want to connect the x10 database from, like for instance your home computers IP address.

That would be the same as your main domain. You need to put in the source you are connecting from under remote hosts though.

Keep in mind it might still be blocked by firewall so may not work at all

I just got confirmation that it is still blocked by the firewall, so won't work either way. Why it shows is another question right now
