It's like hypnosis, with a limited number of people it does really work.
Your subconscious will absorb and keep the information if your eyes could detect it (whether you 'see' it or not) but using the information relies on a lot of variables.
It sounds harsh, but most 'weak minded' people will have determinable results from subconscious alteration (Hypnosis and the such), that may actually be brought about by the conscious mind's want or need for it to work.
There are a lot of theories, and a lot of results from, well, a lot of tests. So it's really a 'Believe what you will' subject.
What I believe is that the human mind is not an absolute thing. It will work as intended in some cases, it won't in others.(Most) But you will absorb the information, regardless.(Your mind, possibly wired to paranoia for survival, actually tends to hold onto such things longer than 'traditional' knowledge. IE subjects of hypnosis appearing in dreams for years and years to come while daily events could be lost in hours)
