Hi,

I've been using free hosting services for last two years : really great !!! I really would like to upgrade to the paying solution as well as I make advertising for X10Hosting to friends. But they told me they cannot open new accounts, due to X10hosting countries policy restrictions... So bad. I don't understand why. And I don't want to upgrade if this operation could definitely block my access to all my web ressources...

It would be really really really great if Switzerland could be at last put into the X10 whitelist ) !

Thanks for reading and have a nice day ! And thanks to all staff for their really great work !

The restriction is only for free hosting, x10Premium does not have any such restrictions.

We had to block a lot of countries due to the amount of abusive users that signed up from them, when the abusive users by far outnumber the good ones it isn't really feasible to provide free hosting to that country anymore. The abuse does cost us time (to contact services and have blocks removed from various places for instance), and in a way also money as the time spent cleaning up does cost in itself.

Accounts that were created before a block was implemented will remain active as long as they abide by ToS and are kept active.

Don't count on the Country Restriction list to change; it's been that way for the last 2 years if not more and, even of they are now saying they'll widen the list, I see that as highly unlikely.

Bdistler, can you please clarify your comment on the restrictions that we have in place? I am uncertain on what you are referring to.

I am in disagreement with you both.

I don't know the other restrictions, but as for the countries ones....well, you can disagree all you want but that doesn't change the truth of the situation.

I mentioned in my news post yesterday that we are opening signups to more countries soon, so you're pretty much saying that I'm lying. Which is something I'd also have to disagree with. :)

Sorry, I didn't mean that.
It's just that there have already been mentions of widening and updating the countries list on the forum, and yet nothing has been changed in years. :banghead:

Our goal has always been to allow more countries back in, however, what we didn't want to happen was to allow it then have to go back to blacklisting. Even though we wanted to or maybe even mentioned that we were planning on it, we never got to the point where we were confident our systems could handle it.

It's hard to explain the level of abusive users we receive and the amount of effort a lot of them put in to circumvent our abuse systems. Very few free hosting companies allow the freedom that we do with accounts, because of this we are a target for people that want to use their accounts to do illegal things. We've completely revamped our abuse monitoring systems and I think we're ready.

We'll be opening up to additional countries sometime this week, the goal in the coming months is to have a blacklist of just a handful of countries and no more whitelist.

That is very good; I hope I'll be able to sign in again. :)

I'm sorry again if I involuntarily offended you, I did not mean to.

I didn't see this mentioned but x10Premium (paid web hosting) and x10VPS are NOT affected by the country filtering. It is only the free hosting service SIGN UP process that is affected. (so to clarify, existing customer, by very nature of having accounts in good standing, are OK)
