Im very curious to know that how many of you donated some part of your earning to orphanage or poor students.
Please consider donating to them and let them have atleast 10% of their expectations come true.I haven't started this thread in the intention to hurt anyone just a suggestion.

"Poor students" meaning?

Those who go to college and don't get EMA, those who go to University and don't have money because they already spent it on drugs and booze? Those who don't bother getting a job in the evening for a few hours?

Just donate to charities, they'll make the difference with your financial help.

I agree we should help the poor and unfortunate, but I'd like to ask which you may be referring to?

The "poor and needy" that are on the commercials? Where some child is in need of food, medicine, schooling? Why should I send my money to some charity that will keep any amount of it and send some of it to some other country, when children in my own country ( state, county, city ) could use the money?

I have yet to see a commercial for charities for "In-country" needy families, children. Those that are doing jobs "under the table", can't afford to go to school, see a doctor, etc.
Granted, the US has agencies that help, but only limited amounts of people. Why not set up like those TV commercials and have someone "adopt" a needy child / family for "pennies" a day to help them goto school, see a doctor, etc?

What about those that don't have children? The couples and adults that work 40+ hours, live in basic slums, and have to do without? The agencies that help the needy say they make too much to get help ... but yet they have to decide which is more important - power / heat or rent / food? ( Or combination of that )

Just some food for thought.
Edit:

What is EMA? I attend school and get financial aid, but due to some new government rules, the school now keeps 98% of it, and decides when, or if, they will send me any to live off of / pay for textbooks. I don't spend it on drugs or booze.
Don't bother to get a job? Exactly what country do you live in? ... Its not as simple as going up to someone and they say "Oh. You're here. You're hired" ...
Even if it was that simple, you have to have transportation to get to / from. Not everyone has it available to them or lives close to where they would work.

As I said earlier - what charities? Those that pick and choose who gets the help? I've volunteered for some of those "agencies" that tell the public one thing, and privately do another. When I find a charity that has directors that take no salary / perks / etc - drive beat up cars, etc ... then maybe I'll consider them.

I donate.
It just gets annoying when you donate, and then they want more. That's just called begging.

Doesn't giving money to a church help? From time to time when I do go to a church I'll throw some money in.

Some people don't donate because they are not financially stable themselves. You can not expect those who can not take care of themselves in the first place to donate to help someone else.

Exactly, If I had heaps of money I'd donate.

There are ways to help without needing to donate money. My fiance and I help our neighbor ( and my fiance's best friend and her daughter ) with various things. Be it helping with babysitting, house sitting when they are gone, inviting them over to share in meals, etc.

I like to donate money through NetworkForGood.org (and my local church). They have a database of charities and information. My favorite part is I can set up recurring donations to several charities, but it all shows up as one charge on my credit card. Simple!

I also really enjoy spending my weekends volunteering for Nashville Habitat for Humanity. If anyone has a local Habitat chapter near them, you should definitely consider checking them out. And no prior construction experience is required... I started out completely constructionally-challenged, and now I'm able to lead many of the tasks. (But I don't want to sound braggy... there are still many tasks that I need to learn!)

There are a few things that can be done with little or no effort, as well (at least for those in the USA):

http://www.goodsearch.com/ and http://www.goodshop.com/
Use these websites to search the Internet or before you shop online at places like WalMart, Amazon, eBay, etc. They give a small portion of the money they make to the charity you select. Personally, I only use goodshop, not goodsearch... I like Google's look and results too much to switch my search engine.

http://www.thehungersite.com/
Click on their website and sister sites daily, and the sponsors donate.

Folding @ Home (http://folding.stanford.edu/)
Use your computer's spare processing power to help Stanford University research the way proteins fold. This may help them learn about misfoldings and the diseases they cause. I have it running in the background of my PC, and I notice no change in performance when I'm streaming videos, rendering 3D images, or even playing Unreal.

Woow amazing replies guys and now i keep realizing there's more inside every one than a normal webmaster.
i don't mean donating as money only we can donate our time ,our ride for example we can give lift to a kid going to school,we can teach a kid who has not sufficient resource to go to tuition,a dress for a poor kid and list goes on..some thing like this will be really more than sufficient and light up their day. :)
even though i did very very little help to some one i wish to have a good job and money to really help others hope that god will show me a way :)

I volunteer at SIRE (a therapeutic equestrian center). I also bought a couple laptops for the Give One, Get One program. But with donations, I normally donate to open source projects...

I forgot to mention that whenever I fix computers for someone, I'll donate my time, seriously go all day, even on New Years Eve just to get their computer fixed. I remember fixing someone's computer from 7PM all the way up to 1AM on New Year's Eve/Day :D Sure I may get paid, but I'm in it for the fun of it, not for the money.
