Wordpress - Cannot Write to Website

Hello,
I have recently been having trouble with my website, whenever I try to update a plugin, or install a new one, I have not been able to write to my website directory. This problem also exists when I try to create a new post, and it has been going on for almost a month. Is this a common error? If so, what do I have to do to resolve it?

Additionally, I tried to install a plugin by uploading the .zip from my computer, and it gave the error:
Failed to write file to disk.
